Wanted: Third Member for a Sociable Three Bed
Morning all!
This whole thing is fairly amusing, awkward and absolutely terrifying in equal measure; like a game of Housemate Tinder in which your terrible Catfish of a date never, ever, leaves...
Miriam and I are here, spinning the roulette wheel once more, as our current housemate has decided to abandon us for pastures new (rude, right?).
- About the Flat
We are located just off of Battersea Square, about a five minute walk from the river and ten minutes from both Clapham Junction Station and Battersea Park. While we don't have a private garden we live about ten metres away from a locked, communal, substitute with benches, a barbecue pit and a little gazebo, which does the job.
The flat holds heat incredibly well in the winter and catches a nice little breeze in the summer. We have one bathroom upstairs, and a small toilet down, as well as a sizeable living room and a separate kitchen.
The room itself is the one of three doubles, and probably the largest of them by a shade. Please ignore the room part of the video itself, as that is of the smallest (the pictures are accurate however). The small room was always a right of passage, but Miriam seems to love it so much that she doesn’t want to move out. It is furnished with a double bed, two bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe with a full length mirror.
Compared to similar properties our rent is very low, and the landlord has only put the rent up once since the first trio moved in in 2011 (this summer) so we don’t expect it to go up again anytime soon! Our bills tend to come to £100 each all-in, meaning that the total expense for the room would be ~£880 a month. We also have subscriptions to Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Sky and BT Sport (although I should warn you that for some reason whenever one leaves the room the latter just happens to turn itself on - can't ever imagine why...).
With regard to the big question about working from home; Miriam works shift work as a pediatric nurse so is often gone, and I’m here twice a week. While I have a small desk in my room, Leah - our outgoing flatmate - uses the living room downstairs, so there is definitely space for one more to join our impromptu miniature WeWork.
- About Us
We currently work in finance and nursing respectively, and while we seem to manage to maintain absolutely no life balance, flitting between mild alcoholism and an inability to escape work, have both managed to somehow survive each other's company whilst working from home.
As a house, we have been known to engage in all of the usual; flat meals, pub quizzes, nights out, movie marathons etc., but do have our own groups of friends too so there is plenty of room for downtime.
-About You
I feel the main requirement for a new housemate is someone who's quite keen to join the family. I've stayed in the flat so long because it's first place I've lived in London that has felt like a home from home, and would really love to keep the tradition going.
Other than that, a willingness to pile in on any of the following would be an enormous plus.
1. Have a pub quiz specialist subject that's ideally biology or human body related (I've decided that's our weak spot and the game of Operation taught me absolutely nothing as a child);
2. Heckle and pass judgments based on absolutely nothing while watching Love Island;
3. Help with a plan on how we can get the flat below to adopt us so that we can use their back garden, pizza oven and fire pit.
If none of the above have put you off yet, and you feel we might be a good fit for you, feel free to send us a short message with a bit about yourself and we will get back to you as soon as we can!
